having to disable comments and trackbacks on some of my posts because of spam. this does not make me happy. don’t they know i don’t get enough traffic to be worth it??

I set up a test server to give WU-United a try. Since the main developer has stopped, I was using a verison I found here:

After a false start and a failure to read directions I got it running. I was skeptical at first since it only used Wordpress, not WordpressMU, and that was a correct feeling.

While it does work, phpbb users get access to the blog, even a ‘personal’ blog, it is not the way I’d like. the way it works is that all blogs are just a part of one Wordpress blog, and the blogs are pulled out by designating which author (for example: blog.php/?author=3/) which is not a pretty solution.

Also, ALL blogs have to have one template. The fact that there really is only one blog makes this make sense, but alas, this is not what I want.

So close, very close, but not close enough. Same idea, but Wordpress MU and we’d have gold.

so i spoke too soo, seems that the tags didn’t cross over. so time to see how to get them to. worst case senerio is that they have to be retyped in, but i’d prefer not to.

so this has been updated to the 2.7 edition of the software. other than having to figure out that an htaccess file was needed, it was, mostly, painless.

I set up the new version of Wordpress on another website and tried it. The site seemed to work ok, but the URL (midatlantichorror.org) is so entrenched into the database, I could not fully test the site.

That being said, the admin account worked, and all the blogs showed up… so now I just need time and we’ll be moving over to it here. If all works well, there will be an update.

so here is an idea. one blog, but many URLs.

so if you go to your personal website, you see announcements, the horror website you see writing, tech website you see tech stuff.

i think i could do it with HTACCESS, but i’d have to look into it more.

as i posted earlier, i am looking to have one login for both WP and PHPBB

which appears to work, but by ‘work’ i’m not sure it does what i want it to do.

rather than have it set up the wordpress users, i think i am going to, for now, still leave the two independent. rather, i want it so that if you have a WP login, it logs you in. if you don’t, then it gives you the change to get one.

that way people are condemned to have their PHPBB login dictating their WP blog title.

should anyone be actually reading this do not take my silence as a sign of non-work. if you could hear php bubble, javascript crackle and fizz, if you could see sparks from html, then you would think i was a mad scientist.

i know this is for wordpress stuff… but hey, why not for the site as a whole? i mean i have machinations…

i’ve started learning AJAX to get some nifty features going. I want to make RSS on the front page, perhaps even to add in off site blogs from members.

the other is to link the PHPbb and wordpress logins, wouldn’t it be nice to just have one for each?
